About Sun Valley, Idaho

The first chairlift in North America was constructed in 1936 in the Wood River Valley.  The developer was W. Averell Harriman, the owner of the Union Pacific Railroad. and he named the area Sun Valley.   Over the years Sun Valley has been home and playground to many celebrities and politicians.  It is well known for its 250 days of sunshine every year, its beautiful mountains, great restaurants, and fabulous outdoor activities.  The Sun Valley Lodge was constructed in 1936 and still stands today in all of its original elegance and style.
